Course Materials at OpenGeo¶
OpenGeo is a “social enterprise” devoted to building and supporting tools that help organizations share their information online. We believe that access to knowledge is a fundamental good, so we make our training materials available online under an open document license, for everyone to use and reuse.
Training Courses¶
The following are actual course materials given at our OpenGeo training classes in New York City and around the world. As our list of courses grows, we will be posting more materials here.
- Introduction to the OpenGeo Suite
- This full day course will introduce attendees to the OpenGeo Suite. The course is divided into two main areas. The first, Working With Data, will include an introduction to PostGIS and loading and organizing data with GeoServer. The second, Making Maps, will involve styling map layers with Styler, composing and publishing maps with GeoExplorer, map optimization with GeoWebCache, and creating your own web map application with OpenLayers.
Other Workshops¶
The following are materials were given at various workshops and conferences.
- Developing OGC Services Based Web Applications with GeoExt
- Presented at AGIT 2010, this workshop introduces GeoExt as a web mapping frontend to OGC Web Services (OWS). Create a draggable map window with a WMS layer, a WMS browser, a WFS-T editor, and more.
- Introduction to OpenLayers
- How to create an embedded map, add layers, use controls, add markers and other useful topics for getting started with the OpenLayer Javascript map component.
- Spatial Database Tips and Tricks
- How to use the power of spatial databases to make your web mapping applications more powerful. Spatial SQL queries, binding the web to the database, and web architectures.
- The Open Source Geostack
- Presented at Where 2.0 2010, this workshop introduces a complete set of open source components: PostGIS spatial database, GeoServer application server, OpenLayers user interface, GeoWebCache content accellerator and QGIS desktop application.
- Introduction to PostGIS
- Presented at FOSS4G 2010, this workshop introduces the PostGIS spatial database. Installation, loading data, configuration, spatial SQL queries, indexing, tuning and viewing are among the topics touched on in this overview workshop.
